Artist’s Statement

In glass art, unlike in many other artistic mediums, the artist is often called upon to work closely with others - with architects and with clients.

All my works -- whether they are small or large, destined for public institutions or private residences, for galleries or museums, for religious or commercial use - are products of my relationship to the world that surrounds me, to the world of art, and to what's going on in my own mind and heart.

When possible I am drawn to balance and harmony in the world and in my compositions, and my works often convey a sense of happiness. There is also often humor in them. Not everyone "gets" them. My message is so simple that it is often overlooked. It is just that: in the midst of the noise and violence around us we can try to remain open and hopeful. I try to appeal to that part of the human personality. I am product of the 60's – 70"s generation, and I still believe that mankind's story can have a happy ending.  What can you do?

For commissioned work I must also obviously take into account the needs and desires of the client and of the architectural space. In that way architectural glass work is different from most other arts, where the artist most often can work without constraints – although, I remind myself, artists like Michelangelo and other great painters and sculptors did indeed create commissioned work that necessarily imposed certain limits upon them. So in these cases it is up to me, working with clients and architects, to create original, exciting art, sometimes even audacious art.

I love modern art insofar as it conveys a feeling of freedom and space. Good modern art to me is like breathing clean air – invigorating and liberating; and this is what I try to create.
